Thanks for writing, Nic. Unfortunately for Jay and the Cardinals, the throw was “inches” off after a 6’3″ very good defensive first baseman took one step, then another step and lunged for the ball. THEN, and only THEN, was the throw inches off. Watch the replay. The throw wound up 15 feet or more up the third base line. If the throw was “inches” off, it would have just about hit Albert Pujols without him moving. And, given the language of the rule, it simply wasn’t an accurate throw. Thanks again. Steve Kallas

Bill – I understand what you are saying. But how can anyone BELIEVE Jim Tressel when when he says one thing and acts in a completely different manner. Doesn’t he sound like a hypocrite to you? Enjoying the debate. Thanks!

The reason many OSU fans defend Tressel is because he is a GOOD PERSON! Obviously OSU is not a squeaky clean program but Jim Tressel is the kind of man that any man would aspire to be. Ask any of his former players if his “image” is phony. He truly cared for his players and tried to help them become men, he didn’t just use them to win football games.
True Tressel won on the field… he was 9-1 vs. Michigan and won a national championship in his tenure. But he also won in the classroom. OSU’s football team ranked 4th nationally behind only Duke, Northwestern and Rutgers. You would also find the team out reading to children in elementary schools, visiting kids in hospitals, etc.
Why the media enjoys tearing down a good man who made a mistake is beyond me. Did Tressel commit a major infraction? YES! Does that undo every good did that the man has done? NO!

Lebron’s biggest crtiticism in Cleveland was when he deferred the final shots to open teammates, now his biggest criticism is that he doesn’t make shots at the end of games. At least in Cleveland his teammates moved and allowed him to create openings, in Miami they are all just standing around and waiting for him to take the shot. It is either that Lebron does not trust his teammates to take that shot or his coaches don’t trust anyone either. Their offensive sets at the end of games makes it much easier to guard Lebron and his drives to the hoop make it easier for help defense…as many shots as Jordan made to win games, he dished just as often, but he was dishing to Paxson, Kerr, Kukoc and Pippen

The NBA All Star voting is a farce. Why should the china vote be able to elect Yao Ming when he is not even playing? Why should LaMarcus Aldridge and Kevin Love be passed over just because they play for a smaller market? The process needs to be revised. If Steve Kallas were sports king, what system would he propose?
