John Harbaugh is the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens while Jim Harbaugh is in charge of the San Francisco 49ers. It’s fair to say that at the end of the game on Sunday, John and Jim’s parents will have mixed emotions.

For the record, John is the older Harbaugh at 50. He played his college ball of Miami of Ohio and never reached the NFL as a player. He rose up the assistant coaching ranks for several years, first at Western Michigan and Indiana, then in the NFL with the Eagles.

John took over as head coach of the Ravens in 2008. Baltimore has made the playoffs for five consecutive years under John’s guidance and he has a regular season record of 54-26 and a postseason record of 8-4.

Younger brother Jim is 49. He was the starting quarterback at the University of Michigan and they finished ranked 2nd in the country in 1985. He went on to a long and productive NFL career with the Bears, Colts, Ravens and Chargers.

Like his brother, Jim started out as a college assistant and worked his way up to being the head man at Stanford before taking over the 49ers in 2011. In his first year at the helm, San Francisco finished 13-3 and reached the NFC Championship Game. This year, they slipped to 11-4-1 and have now reached the Super Bowl.

Both Harbuagh’s are intense and not afraid to make daring moves that will open them up to potential criticism. John changed offensive coordinators late this season with his team in first place in the AFC North while Jim changed quarterbacks mid-season, going with the raw but more talented Colin Kaepernick over the experienced and safer Alex Smith.

Anyone who knows anything about sibling rivalries knows how personal, intense and fun they can be. Most brothers love each other but also love beating each other and rubbing it in each other’s faces.

The Harbaugh’s father, Jack, was a college football coach and he taught his sons all about the game he loved. Now he and the rest of America can sit back and enjoy the fruits of all of that hard work.

One thing is certain, in the case of Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh, Jack and Jackie Harbaugh will be the parents of a Super Bowl winning coach some time on Sunday night. And dinner conversations at the Harbaugh house will never be the same again.

Big night tonight on RAW from Tampa with the road to WrestleMania seemingly getting a distinctive kickoff. Random Thoughts time….

With @TheRock returning to the live, Monday night RAW tonight, it kicks off WWE’s 2013 TV year in a significant manner. Adding to the fact that the National Championship of College Football will be airing live as well, there will be a massive amount of TV households using television which bodes well for WWE’s flagship broadcast. TV viewers are creature’s of habit and channel surfing is the norm in today’s world.

I’m taking advantage of picture in picture and watching Raw with its audio while having football on the secondary screen. I don’t need audio to follow football and am anxious to see and hear Raw.

I see tonight’s RAW as a great opportunity for ALL talents to make their presence felt. My ‘maximizing one’s minutes’ theory was never more timely than it will be tonight for everyone who appears on RAW.

Raw getting off to a fast, compelling start seems imperative. First talents out of the gate will occupy some prime real estate. The first 30 minutes of RAW are going to be vital.

I’ve updated a ton of new, Q&A’s here on our site and invite you to check out the new material.

Vividly remember broadcasting in Miami the first RAW of 2007 with @JohnCena vs. Kevin Federline aka K-Fed at the same time that OU played Boise State in one of the most exciting games of the year in the Fiesta Bowl. It was a challenging night for yours truly as I was being fed football scores during commercial breaks. That was the only #OU game that I missed all season but got to see the 4th quarter and OT in my room after being dropped off at the hotel by @JerryLawler. I hit the mini bar in my room hard that night as my #Sooners lost a nail biter. Wearing my OU gear home on the plane the next day provided for some interesting conversations with a variety of folks as if my black hat doesn’t do on its own.

On this date in 2002, HHH returned to the WWE after a career threatening quadriceps injury. The return was at Madison Square Garden and the ovation that ‘The Game’ received still is a vivid memory and one of the loudest ‘pops’ that I can ever remember hearing in the ‘World’s Most Famous Arena.’

Hard to believe that some on Twitter @JRsBBQ seemingly have such ill conceived opinions that the Rock returning to WWE to gear up for a WrestleMania run is a negative to ‘young talents.’ I find this flimsy theory laughable. Rock is a major attraction that will attract disconnected/former viewers and many new viewers who are fans of Rock’s movie work. The more eyes watching any WWE program the better. Rock also provides WWE an ‘outside the usual envelope’ media buzz which is invaluable.

Saw where Argentina Zuma passed away a few days ago. I met him in 1974 while working for Lee Roy McGuirk in the Oklahoma Territory and was amazed that a man so small, maybe 5’6″, could have been a major headliner in MSG. Zuma was a former Olympic gymnast from Argentina and competed in the 1948 Olympics. He was a muscular, well conditioned athlete who could ‘sell’ with the best of them, but never ‘die,’ and could fly in an era where ‘flying’ was a highly unique skill set. What I remember most about the man was that he treated a rookie, me, in a gentlemanly, professional manner. I can still recall Zuma getting a ‘hot tag’ and lighting it up. Nice man..real pleasure to be around…RIP Argentina Zuma.

Disappointing trip to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl as Texas A&M schooled my Sooners. @JManziel2 is a freakish QB that OU had no answer whatsoever. Huge offseason, especially in recruiting, awaits Oklahoma. Changes in the talent level across the board is needed. Players win games and not systems or coaches. Great coaching certainly is money but a great coach with average or less players is hamstrung.

@AdrianPeterson has to be the NFL MVP but the quarterback loving voters will likely give the nod to Peyton Manning who I’d vote as the comeback player of the year. Yes, I’m biased. I hope that #Vikings get AD some help.

Great argument can be made for @DangRussellWilson wining the NFL Rookie of the Year but that distinction will likely go with @RG3. Haven’t forgotten Andrew Luck either but Wilson still has his team in the playoff hunt while the other two went down Sunday. Seattle travels well and with a big, physical, fast defense will give #falcons all the ‘Birds can handle in the Georgia Dome this weekend. Denver will likely blast the Ravens in Mile High as this is a bad matchup for an aging, tired defense.

Speaking of the Ravens, I’d love to see the great Ray Lewis have one WWE match ala Lawrence Taylor back in the day.

In the next month or two we are going to accelerate the developmental process of a couple of new JR’s products specifically a JR’s HOT Sauce and, hopefully, a Buffalo Wings Sauce.

Remember that fans in the UK and that entire region of the world can access JR’s products via @Americansoda in Manchester and at some of their American Candy locations.

Getting loads of questions regarding the 20th Anniversary of RAW show in Houston next week. I can’t make it any clearer but I don’t know any creative plans and if I did why would I spoil them? One can get plenty of speculation from the internet wrestling community who appear to have better sources than do I. I just know that every attempt will be made to make that milestone event special and that includes follow up to what occurs tonight.

Excited to travel to Orlando this week for the @WWENXT tapings @FullSail which will be highlighted by an appearance by WWE HOFer @ShawnMichaels. I hope the NXT talents are ready to kick off 2013 in a big way. If one can’t get motivated for this taping, those talents need to become civilians. Really anxious to see who comes to play Thursday night.

Thanks for dropping by and keep supporting my family’s efforts with building JR’s brand via http://www.wweshop.com.

The New York Jets fired GM Mike Tannenbaum earlier this week, a move that was both expected and necessary, but they made a major mistake by holding on to Coach Rex Ryan, a man who contributes to the problems surrounding this troubled franchise as much as anybody.

Supporters of Ryan point to the fact that the Jets reached the AFC Championship Game in his first two seasons in New York and that he is a defensive genius.

While Ryan does bring some defensive coaching ability to the table, his shortcomings in other areas far outweigh whatever benefits his defensive coaching ability may provide.

In fact, Ryan is so wrapped up in his defense that he neglects other areas of his team. In 2011, Santonio Holmes, the Jets top wide receiver, was not getting along with quarterback Mark Sanchez. It got so bad that Holmes was benched in the fourth quarter of the Jets season finale, a game the Jets needed to win in order to have a chance at making the
playoffs. Ryan was unaware of the feud. One player said he had never been in such a divided locker room before. Ryan vowed to be more involved in his offense and to pay more attention to the entire team in 2012.

It didn’t exactly turn out that way. This season, the Jets locker room again seemed divided, this time over whether or not backup QB Tim Tebow should get a chance to run the offense when Sanchez’s play was so bad it could only be described as downright embarrassing. Again, the locker room was divided but Ryan was either unwilling or unable to stop it.

Later in the season, leaks about what Tebow allegedly said or didn’t say about his willingness to run the Jets wildcat offense after Rex started Greg McElroy ahead of him also made Ryan look bad. Either the coach misinterpreted what Tebow said or he was planting stories in the media to make his backup quarterback look bad. Either way, it doesn’t bode well for Ryan’s ability to lead the team.

It was clear from day one that Ryan had no use for Tebow and he did nothing to integrate the former Heisman Trophy winner into his offense despite the fact that there were constructive ways to do it. All season long, we heard about “secret” plans to use Tebow. The secret must have been that Ryan thought Tebow couldn’t play quarterback and would only insert him in a game to whet the appetite of Tebow’s sizable following just enough to keep them interested. The net result: the Jets offense sputtered and Tebow lost whatever potential trade value he had to the Jets.

The offense as a whole was again a major failure in 2012. Who did Ryan bring in as his offensive coordinator for this season? Tony Sparano. The ex-Dolphins head coach was brought in to run the wildcat and the “ground and pound” attack that was more successful in Ryan’s first two seasons as Jets coach. The Jets running attack under Sparano was average at best, their passing offense was among the worst in the league. The team never truly established an offensive identity.

Another problem with Ryan’s leadership is his blustery and boastful style that makes him resemble the ringmaster at a circus. While owner Woody Johnson never met a back page story about his team he didn’t like, Ryan’s empty boasts result in his total lack of credibility.

Before this season, the Jets head coach once again said this was the most talented team he had since he came to New York and said the club should be Super Bowl contenders. While it’s OK to try to boost your team’s confidence, Ryan said this every year despite the obvious fact that the Jets’ talent level was clearly headed in the wrong direction.

Even this year while the frequency of his boasts were reduced, Ryan still said enough silly things to make any intelligent observer of the game tune him out. When you’re winning, the circus surrounding the team is tolerable, but when you’re losing, it gets downright embarrassing.

As for Ryan’s defense, it is not quite as good as advertised. Sure, Ryan supporters can point to top 10 finishes in yards allowed, even in the past two losing seasons. But the most important defensive statistic is points allowed and the Jets finished 18th in that category in 2011 and 20th this season, hardly championship numbers.

More importantly, Ryan’s defense broke down at key times late in games way too often even when the team was winning. With the game on the line, the Jets defense was at its worst and cost them more than a few wins each season.

Keeping Ryan on for another season will also hurt the Jets chances of bringing in a quality GM. The new hire goes into the job knowing he is stuck with a coach he didn’t choose, a bad salary cap situation and a quarterback that is among the league’s worst. The fact that the Jets must give Sanchez $8.25 million in guaranteed money this year means they are stuck with him on their roster for at least 2013. This is a quarterback driven league and unless the Jets can draft a QB who can start right away, they will be put deeper into salary cap hell by signing a free agent to hold the job until they can develop one. So the new GM would take over a team with a bad salary cap situation, a coach he didn’t choose and one of the league’s worst starting quarterbacks. That’s hardly a desirable situation for a new GM and a smart one with choices would head elsewhere if at all possible.

The bottom line is that Ryan did a poor job the past two seasons and is as responsible as anybody for the Jets failures. He may be a very good defensive coordinator, but he is not well-suited to be a head coach.

The Jets set their team back at least another year by holding on to Rex in 2013. Unless major changes are made to the roster and mentality of this team, then the chances of a turnaround by the Jets in 2013 are somewhere between slim and none.

Tackling. For the Sooners to win they must tackle better than they have all season. Missed tackles equate to potential big plays and extended time on the field for one of the nation’s best offenses.

Assignment Football. Things like gap control and containment facilitate OU’s chances of getting a few more three and out’s which, against Texas A&M, are crucial.

Line of Scrimmage. How well OU’s offensive tackles handle the Aggie DE’s looms large. LT Lane Johnson can earn himself some major bucks with a great game. Sophomore RT Tyrus Thompson will be sternly challenged. Sooners D-Line will be assaulted. How will they respond?

Ball Control. One of the best ways to defend Kevin Sumlin’s Aggies is to keep their offense off the field. Timely play calling and crisp execution by the Sooners offense is a must.

Oklahoma Running Game. It must have a discernable pulse. If Damien Williams, Brennan Clay and Trey Millard can be effective, QB Landry Jones’ night will be significantly more productive. Plus, an efficient running game makes the game clock an ally.

Big Plays. Give up many of them and OU loses. Make a few and the Crimson clad fans amongst the 90,000 attending will celebrate a win. Can the Aggies secondary matchup with the Sooners deep, big play making receiving corps? Let’s hope not.

Turnovers. Always a big factor in any game especially one where the two teams are so evenly matched. It’s hard to imagine that the team with the fewest turnovers in the game doesn’t win it.

Expect an emotional, high scoring contest Friday night in Cowboys Stadium. It’s easy to speculate that the last team with the football wins but one can also make an argument that the team who makes the last, big play on defense wins it. QB Jones will someday, and deservedly so, be remembered as one of the best to ever play at Oklahoma and hopefully that discussion begins Friday night in Dallas.

But, clearly, by bringing in a guy like Jason Kidd (the MVP of the Knicks after Carmelo, who may very well be the MVP of the whole league) to solidify the offense, the defense and the team in the locker room and on the court, the Knicks are an interesting team to watch and a team that will win 50 or more games this season.

But what exactly does that mean for them, short- and long-term, as a championship team? Well, for decades, New York Ranger fans had to live with “1940, 1940” as a chant that other teams’ fans threw at them. And, if you were around in the 1970s to the ‘80s to the ‘90s, you know how it went from “30 years since a Cup” to “40 years since a Cup” to “50 years since a Cup.” The torture, of course, finally ended in 1994 and, unfortunately, Sam Rosen’s “This one will last a lifetime” may turn out to be truer than any Ranger fan had hoped for.

The Knicks? Well, they are certainly entering 1940-territory as, at the end of this season, they will be looking at their own 40-year nightmare without a championship. Hard to believe that this Knick team can beat the Heat (despite their two big wins over them already), the Thunder, the Clippers or even, it says here, the Lakers.

But they are very competitive at a very high level with a guy (Mike Woodson) who can coach and, just as important (see Avery Johnson), seems to have the respect of the players. When Amar’e (see below) and Iman Shumpert come back, the Knicks will be very deep. But, to this writer, they are in that second tier of teams after that top four or five in terms of actually winning a championship.

THE RETURN OF AMAR’E

Probably the most over-publicized and over-analyzed story in New York sports this year outside of the Jets QB situation (an absurdity for another day), the return of Amar’e shouldn’t really be a big deal. It’s very clear that Carmelo, the main man no matter who is on the Knicks, has to get the overwhelming majority of his minutes at the four. If you didn’t understand that last season, anybody with even half a basketball brain can see it this season.

But the Amar’e solution is very simple if his dedication as a real “team player” is true (and it says here that it is true). Carmelo is averaging 36 minutes a game. Tyson Chandler, at the five, is averaging 32 minutes a game. While some of that is overlapping, there should be minutes at the four and five for Amar’e when these guys are out of the game. On straight math, that’s 28 minutes a game (again, with some overlap) that Mike Woodson can insert Amar’e into the game and not hurt the chemistry that the team has up to this point. His minutes at the five should be carefully crafted by Woodson to have Amar’e play against second-string centers so the already undersized Knicks won’t get killed on the boards. In addition, add some time where, maybe (MAYBE), Woodson can try Amar’e at the four and Carmelo at the three (that obviously did not work last year), then there will be lots of minutes for Amar’e.

Frankly, Woodson should limit Amar’e’s minutes to somewhere in the 20-22 minute range. Everybody thought (correctly) that his knees wouldn’t hold up over time. There’s no point to test that theory by playing him 30+ minutes.

That’s a recipe for disaster.

JEREMY LIN

The Jeremy Lin dynamic was an amazing one to watch in New York earlier this year. Unfortunately, many “experts” decided not to give Lin the benefit of the doubt and, to this day, continue to criticize him. It’s hard to escape the notion that there is some racism involved; certainly, at a minimum, there was stereotyping going on, as anyone who has played basketball at any high level knows that, when an Asian guy walks on a basketball court, the initial reaction for many is that “this guy can’t play.”

The discussion about his contract, to be kind, was misguided. Maybe Chris Rock said it best in a Tweet: “If linn were a 23 year old black kid who came straight from high school and had tat on his neck that said thug life and happened to score 38 points on the Lakers I don’t think anyone would question his contract.”

Truer words were never spoken.

And maybe Kobe said it best, in terms of his ability to play and the fact that he was overlooked, after Lin did torch the Lakers for 38: “Players don’t usually come out of nowhere. If you can go back and take a look, his skill level was probably there from the very beginning, but no one ever noticed.”

The “experts” who didn’t believe (or couldn’t see) Lin’s obvious skill set (he’s quick, fast and has no fear but, most important, he simply sees the floor as a point guard better than most point guards in the NBA already), still had to stick with their stories this year. The fools (and there are a bunch) who said that his knee surgery for a torn meniscus was “just minor” clearly don’t understand what a damaged knee (of any degree) does to an NBA point guard.

You see, the day Jeremy Lin can’t compete on a speed level through injury or age is the day he can’t play in the NBA. But that’s true for virtually every quick NBA point guard.

The myths about Lin abound. He can’t go left (absurd, see Kallas Remarks, 2/17/12, or, better yet, Google Jeremy Lin/John Wall summer league game and watch Lin torch the then top draft pick by blowing by him (who’s quicker than Wall?) twice to Lin’s left.

How about he’s a “shoot-first” point guard? Again, beyond stupid. Lin sees the floor better than most point guards and he is just now finishing, essentially, enough games to have played ONE season in the NBA. He had to shoot a lot last year when Linsanity started. Why? Well, that’s easy. In the first nine games of Linsanity, Carmelo and Amar’e were in the lineup together for only one. They both were out of the lineup for three of those nine games.

So, what’s a point guard to do? Score, that’s what. As an example, here’s the starting lineup for the Knicks against the Timberwolves on February 11, 2012, the fifth game of Linsanity: Lin, Tyson Chandler, Landry Fields, Jared Jeffries and Bill Walker.

Any questions? Of course he had to shoot.

Back to his “minor” knee surgery, where, clearly, Lin was a little gun shy coming back. Criticized for that, he certainly was not 100% earlier this season. In his first game against the Knicks, he simply couldn’t cut or run as fast as he could last season. So the uninformed “experts” who made their bed last year by, essentially, saying he was a flash in the pan, continued to criticize him as an NBA player.

But then came the second Rockets-Knicks game where Lin, now (it seems) completely recovered, did whatever he wanted against the Knicks, shooting 9-15 for 22 points and getting to the rim whenever he felt like it (blowing by Raymond Felton or Jason Kidd at will). If you follow Lin, you know he had, a few games earlier, torched San Antonio for 38 so you knew he was back to full health.

The problem for Lin is his tenacity. And while he would probably tell you that his fearlessness is the reason he got to the NBA and has been successful, he really needs to back off and take a page from Russell Westbrook’s book. Westbrook, with the best mid-range jumper in the NBA, avoids lots of collisions by simply pulling up for 10-foot jumpers. Lin, rather than getting hammered by Tyson Chandler, needs to get over the macho stuff and pull up for short jumpers.

If he does that, he will lengthen his career, help his team and have a less likely chance of getting injured (conversely, if Russell Westbrook can ever see the floor like Jeremy Lin does (and Westbrook is improving), Westbrook will become one of the three greatest point guards ever, behind Magic and Bob Cousy).

So Lin landed in a good spot and, now, with James Harden, will eventually become one of the top backcourts in the NBA. Could he have been better on the Knicks and made them a better team than they are now?

Well, we’ll never know the answer to that question. Raymond Felton, who has been excellent for the Knicks, has been aided by having one of the great point guards of all-time (Kidd) starting at the two. Would Kidd have helped Lin as much as he has helped Felton? Again, we’ll never know, although it sure looked like, last year, after Lin had torched Kidd in the beginning of Linsanity, that Kidd went out of his way to try and score on Lin in their second meeting and even, maybe, try to hurt Lin in that second game.

Whether anyone will admit it or not, everybody seems to try harder against Jeremy Lin for whatever reason. Add the poor, uncalled for comments by J R Smith and Carmelo about Lin’s contract offer from the Rockets, and you just don’t know what would have happened had Lin stayed with the Knicks.

But make no mistake, no matter what you read or hear from the “experts,” Jeremy Lin is already a good to very good NBA point guard whose game will continue to improve if he stays healthy.

We now begin another riveting and informative blog or so says the author while breaking his arm patting himself on the back….

#WWE #TLC is on PPV from Brooklyn, New York this Sunday on pay per view and I’m counting on the event to provide some intriguing water cooler talk come Monday morning. The event feels as if it has the potential to provide fans with some ‘fresh’ content especially as it relates to evolving talents and their maturation process notwithstanding some obvious ‘big picture’ matters.

Here are my predictions:

@HeelZiggler slipping over @JohnCena in the Ladder match with the MITB contract at stake. Would it shock me to see Dolph Ziggler leave TLC as the new World Champion as well? Not totally. It also wouldn’t shock me to see Cena win. That’s one reason this match intrigues me.

@Ryback22 and Team Hell No vs @TheShield…6 man tag that is likely to be wild west like and I see the three newcomers coming out on top by hook or crook. Fresh match that will likely be well received.

@WWESheamus challenging @WWETheBigShow for the World Title..straight forward, physical, smash mouth with Show retaining in a bout where chairs are legal and likely to play a major role in the bout’s outcome.

Rhodes Scholars vs. Mysterio and Sin Cara in a tag team, Tables match…nod goes to the team with the most facial hair…or so we think. Sandow & Rhodes take one more step forward.

R Truth challenging @AntonioCesaro for the United States Title. Cesaro is in full on throwback mode, if he wore a jersey it would be a Johnny Valentine model, and will retain his championship. A ‘maximize one’s minutes’ type of bout for both talents.

Kofi Kingston defending the Intercontinental Title against @WadeBarrett could be one of the better bouts of the show and I see Kofi retaining against Barrett who is destined for a great 2013. Hope Kofi can continue to regain what he found just down the road from Brooklyn in Madison Square Garden a year or so ago vs Randy Orton. These are two men, or so it seems, WWE is counting on big time in the near future.

Will @WWE Champion @CMPunk’s presence at #TLC Sunday be significant? My assumption is yes but how is anyone’s guess. The WWE Title is the ultimate prize in WWE and it will be on display in some shape, form or fashion.

@MichaelCole will spearhead the broadcast with @JerryLawler and @JCLayfield. Three man booths are often times tough to navigate but Cole does a great job of being the point man and JBL and the King have had a show or two under their belts together so I’d expect that we will be entertained and informed. Could we see a guest appearance by @CMPunk at the announce table Sunday? Any thing is possible in @WWE. The wrestlers provide the music and the announcers provide the lyrics.

Most likely much will be made of what bout will close the PPV and my opinion on that one is “Who cares?” As it relates to the order of events, the first bout of the night on PPV is also extremely important and should be one that is perceived that the live audience will engage in and invest. Frankly, more speculation should be devoted to what bout starts the show that what bout ends the event.

I will be tweeting my thoughts on the TLC PPV live @JRsBBQ and invite you to enjoy the PPV and follow along with me on Twitter.

The podcast of my radio hit on Yahoo Sports Radio can be heard at bit.ly/RvOxaF or simply to tohttp://www.yahoosportsradio.com and locate it there. It’s always fun to speak with my friend @SeanCablinasian. Saturday morning we talked #TLC, @CMPunk, #OU Football and #Heisman Trophy race/winner.

WWEShop.com has a great deal running as we speak where if you spend $40 you get 20% OFF & only $3 FLAT SHIPPING in the USA. The link to WWEShop.com is http://www.wweshop.com. It’s highly recommended that you place your orders by end of the day Sunday to guarantee Christmas delivery in the States.

For UK fans and others in that part of the world, I encourage you to check out @americansoda as they distribute JR’s products not only online but in retail outlets in Manchester and other locales.

Funny how when fans ask questions on Twitter @JRsBBQ IE who’s the greatest, technical wrestler of all time and I provide this answer, “There is NO way to determine a clear cut winner as the topic is too subjective but FOR ME the answer would be Danny Hodge.” For some insane reason that answer is me, apparently, talking in some sort of covert, Oliver North-esque code where I’m knocking other talents like @BretHart and many others by not picking them. That’s #PetCoonGoofy

Working on answering the Q&A’s that have been posed here on our site. I wish new people would join in and that the same fans wouldn’t ask so many questions in one sitting. Nonetheless I enjoy the interactions.

Condolences to the family and friends of the colorful, journeyman wrestler Mike “The Hippy” Boyette who passed away a couple of days ago.

The former United States Marine and judo expert was a noted, territory wrestler back in the day and I got to know him while we both worked for Cowboy Bill Watts.

Boyette had a noted, TV storyline based losing streak of something like “zero for 200″ that we utilized on our weekly, syndicated broadcasts. Boyette was always looking for “that first win” while no one wanted to be Mike’s “first victim.”

The Viet Nam vet was also a skilled archer who had many dangerous and deadly assignments in the Viet Nam war. Stories had it he was a sniper and used the bow with deadly effectiveness. Mike Boyette was an American Hero.

Mike, allegedly, enjoyed smoking cannabis back in the 70′s, arguably as much as any wrestler that most old timers can recall. To protect himself from potential, legal issues with the police on traffic stops, Mike carried marijuana scented air freshener in his vehicle. When stopped, which many wrestlers were back in that era usually for speeding, and an officer would detect a “strange odor” coming from Mike’s vehicle. While Mike usually had 2-3 other TV wrestlers traveling along to help him with travel expenses at 2 cents a mile, the Hippy had the magic formula.

Mike would produce his marijuana scented air freshener, spray it and then the whole car, along with the police officer would laugh uproarishly at Mike’s unique sense of humor. To my knowledge, the special air freshener worked every time.

I was never allowed to ride with Mike as Bill Watts was looking out for me and I became the driver of record for Danny Hodge and the late Scandor Akbar. Another good call, Cowboy.

Mike Boyette was one of the more underrated in ring talents that I can recall. He knew his role and could make any young, up and comer look better than they actually were. Mike was referred to in the business in the territory era as a ‘Carpenter,’ a skilled journeyman who built others.

RIP Mike Boyette, a funny, entertaining, talented wrestler who was Cheech and Chong in tights.

OFFENSE: QB RUSSELL WILSON, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

Wilson completed 23 of 37 passes (62.2 percent) for 293 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions for a 104.9 passer rating in the Seahawks’ 23-17 overtime win at Chicago. He also rushed for 71 yards, the most by a quarterback in franchise history.

He threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to GOLDEN TATE with 0:24 remaining to give Seattle a 17-14 lead and then threw a game-winning 13-yard TD pass to SIDNEY RICE in overtime.

Wilson led touchdown drives of 94, 97 and 80 yards.

With Seattle trailing 14-10 late in the fourth quarter, Wilson engineered a 12-play, 97-yard drive in 3:16 that ended in his touchdown pass to Tate to give the Seahawks the lead.

On the opening possession of overtime, Wilson led Seattle down the field on a 12-play, 80-yard drive that was capped by his TD pass to Rice.

In his rookie season from Wisconsin, this is Wilson’s first career Player of the Week Award.

He is the first Seahawk to be named Offensive Player of the Week since SHAUN ALEXANDER (Week 9, 2005).

Wilson is the first Seattle quarterback to be honored since MATT HASSELBECK (Week 5, 2005).

DEFENSE: S WILLIAM MOORE, ATLANTA FALCONS

Moore had a game-high 11 tackles and two interceptions in the Falcons’ 23-13 win over New Orleans. Atlanta clinched the NFC South division in Week 13.

The performance was Moore’s first career two-interception game. He led an Atlanta defense that registered five interceptions, the most by the Falcons since November 9, 1980. It marked the first time inDREW BREES’ career that he was intercepted five times in a game.

Atlanta’s defense held Brees without a touchdown pass, ending his NFL-record streak of 54 consecutive games with a touchdown pass. The last time Brees did not throw a touchdown pass in a game was October 4, 2009.

Moore’s 11 tackles and nine solo tackles both set new career-highs. This season, Moore leads the team with 75 tackles and 59 solo tackles. He ranks second on the club with four interceptions.

In his fourth year from Missouri, this is Moore’s first career Player of the Week Award.

In the past 15 years, Moore, THOMAS DE COUD (Week 6, 2009) and LAWYER MILLOY (Week 13, 2006) are the only Atlanta safeties to be named Defensive Player of the Week.

SPECIAL TEAMS: K GREG ZUERLEIN, ST. LOUIS RAMS

Zuerlein tied the game at the end of regulation with a 53-yard field goal and then won it in overtime with a 54-yard field goal in the Rams’ 16-13 win over San Francisco.

He is the first player in NFL history to tie the game with no time left in the fourth quarter and then win it in overtime with 50+ yard field goals.

This season, Zuerlein has made seven field goals of at least 50 yards, one shy of the single-season NFL record of eight held by MORTEN ANDERSEN (1995) and JASON HANSON (2008). Zuerlein’s seven 50+ yard field goals are the most by a rookie in NFL history and the most in a single season by a Rams player.

Zuerlein has made six field goals of at least 53 yards this year, the most in a single season in NFL history.

In his rookie season from Missouri Western, this is Zuerlein’s second career Player of the Week Award (Week 4).

He is the second Rams kicker to be honored twice, joining JEFF WILKINS (Week 15, 2002 and Week 1, 2006).

Zuerlein is one of three Rams rookies to be honored this season: P JOHNNY HEKKER (Special Teams, Week 5), CB JANORIS JENKINS (Defense, Week 12) and Zuerlein (Special Teams, Week 4 and 13).
